A gooey, magical dessert where the cake batter starts at the bottom and ends up at the top! Grace used to make this for her children!
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine flour, granulated sugar, 2 Tbsp cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
Mix in milk and butter until smooth, then fold in nuts.
Pour mixture into ungreased square 9x9 baking dish, spreading evenly.
Stir together brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa powder, then sprinkle over batter.
Pour hot water over batter.
Bake for 45 minutes until cake is set, then serve cake and sauce on its own, or with whipped cream or ice cream!
Some recipes recommend adding 1 tsp vanilla.
